Wooden Shakers

In collecting salt and pepper shakers, I really enjoyed those crafted from wood. They range from delicate and beautiful to humorous and goofy!

Destinations

Many times, salt and pepper shakers have destinations on them. My favorite is maraca shaped shakers I have. One says Havana and the other says Cuba. I was really excited to find them because most people don't have anything "touristy" from Cuba!

I also have Hawaii shakers that I think are really neat. They say "Aloha, Hawaii" across the bottom of each one!

Some times, the destination can refer simply to a restaurant. I found "Ponderosa Ranch" shakers, which I really loved because I have memories of eating at one when I was very young. It closed ages ago, but I remember that they always gave kids dum-dum lollipops! These shakers were made by Treasure Craft, which is based in Compton, California. The value of Treasure Craft shakers are approximatley $10-15 (Davern, 30)

Humorous

My most comical shakers are also wooden. They look to be made out of bark and are designed to look like outhouses!

Humorous

I have a few others that are neat. One set are shaped like tear drops. They each have a sticker that says "DAVAR" and "Original's JAPAN" These have their plastic stopper intact

I also have a set with little handles to hold as one uses the salt or pepper. This set doesn't have any markings, other than being labelled for either salt or pepper!
